1971-73 Melbourne, Orlando, Sanford, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Lake Mary, Florida
Approximately 60 properties were purchased in the above listed areas between 1971-73. Particular focus was on properties located on interchanges already in existence, such as, Interstate 4 (north of Orlando) and on all interchange locations to be built with the construction of Interstate 75 from Tampa to Miami. Interstate 75 was in the planning stages through Florida at the time. The highway was already being built from the Canadian Border through the United States to Florida with plans to ultimately terminate in Miami. Interstate 75 became the second most important north/south interstate on the east coast of the United States.
At the time, Interstate 4 locations, like those in Altamonte Springs, were selling for between $.15 to $.20 psf. Today, these same sites in Altamonte Springs on Interstate 4 would be in the $10 to $12 psf. range, or higher.
